What are Polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides are long chains of nucleotide monomers (the building blocks of DNA/RNA) that are processed into ultra-purified injectable formulations derived typically from fish sources (e.g., salmon or trout DNA).
They fall under the category of “bio-stimulators” rather than classic fillers.
How do they work?
Once injected into the dermis, polynucleotides stimulate fibroblasts (cells that produce collagen and elastin) which leads to increased collagen/elastin production, improved skin structure, elasticity and repair.
They also have hydration- and barrier-strengthening effects, as they attract water molecules and support extracellular matrix renewal. Some formulations also provide anti-oxidant or anti-inflammatory effects, helping with stressed or sun-damaged skin.
Who is suitable / What are the considerations?
Suitable for: Those seeking improvement in skin quality, mild/moderate aging signs, or looking for regenerative treatments rather than dramatic volumising.
Not suitable or take caution: Major volume loss (then fillers may be better), active skin infections/inflammations, or if expecting instant “filler”-type results. Also always check for fish/seafood related allergies (since source is fish DNA) although purified.
